How To Prepare Your 3 or 4-Year-Old for Daycare

Early preschool is a big deal for you and your little one!

Even if your child has attended daycare before, their new classroom has more structure to help prepare them for kindergarten. Our qualified staff works through our exceptional curriculum, so they have a leg up on kindergarten material–but this may still be an adjustment for your child.

If your child hasn’t attended daycare regularly, the transition may be more challenging. But intentionally preparing your child will help them have an easier transition. Here are some practical tips:

  • Become familiar with Children’s Academy: Drive by the building, take our virtual tour, and come inside the facility to visit the early preschool classroom! We highly encourage children and parents to meet the teachers and children in their class. You can even visit a few times if your child is especially shy.
  • Sleep well and eat breakfast: Ensure your child has plenty of rest before their first day. If your child arrives at daycare early, be sure they have a good breakfast to keep them full until breakfast is served at Children’s Academy.
  • Say goodbye: It’s tempting to sneak away when your child is happily distracted, but this can cause distress once your child notices you’ve left. Be sure to say goodbye–and make it fun! Have a silly handshake, a special phrase you say every day, or a tight hug goodbye.

These are just a few tips to give your child the best transition to daycare. Feel free to ask our director or early preschool teachers for more helpful tips.
